Celebrating 25 Years

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.

Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? Cancer is an awful disease at any age, but the unfortunate truth is that childhood cancers are incredibly under-funded and therefore under-researched.

As a scientist, I am very aware of the price of common laboratory equipment needed for this kind of research:

A set of pipets? $1367.03 -  Most labs have a set for each scientist.

A case of pipet tips? $254.20 - A busy lab could use these in a week.

A case of gloves? $249.48 - Might last a month.

I am looking forward to getting my head shaved on March 13 alongside friends and perfect strangers to do anything we can to raise money in support of the Saint Baldrick's Foundation's campaign to help fund childhood cancer research.

Finally, I would like to dedicate my participation in this year's Saint Baldrick's event to my uncle, Rex Moody, who recently passed away after a short fight against malignant melanoma. Rex was an excellent guitar player, and in the 60s he fronted a band called Rex and the Galaxies. Therefore, this year I would like to celebrate his life by naming this team after his band.
