Celebrating 25 Years

We are shaving our heads to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So we decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.

I am a Cancer Survivor.  The day I was diagnosed my doctor told me "Mark, you are a Cancer Survivor and don't you ever forget that".  So, here I am today, 14 years old and I am proud to say I kicked cancer in the butt.  I was diagnosed with Leukemia when I was 4 1/2 years old.  I had four long years of chemotherapy.  Some I remember, like the yucky pink medicine, shots in my legs, and the big shots in my back which I now know were spinal taps.  I remember crying when the nurses accessed my port to give me medicine and chemo.  I remember making the long trips to Northern Virginia to get treatment.  I remember missing lots of school.  I remember how nice the nurses and doctors were and how my family and friends always said kind things to me.  I remember the blood drives held in my honor.  Now we hold blood drives in our community to raise awareness to donating blood and platelets.

Please consider giving to my St. Balderick's page.  This is my 4th year as a shavee for this event.  I haven't had a hair cut since August and trust me my mom reminds me every time I push my hair out of my eyes.

March 19th is the day I go bald.  This is the day I look into the mirror and remember those months when I didn't have hair.

Every bit of donation counts.

Thank you.

Mark A. Isabelle
