I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Why am I raising funds for children's cancer? - Because it is scarcely funded. In the US, all types of childhood cancers combined receive only 4% of the total federal cancer research funding - Moreover, pharmaceutical companies find it unprofitable to invest in childhood cancer research, explaining why only 2 new drugs to treat childhood cancer have been developed in the last 20 years How is childhood cancer different from adult cancer? - While many adult cancers can be diagnosed early, in 80% of kids, cancer has already spread to other areas of the body by the time it is diagnosed. - Also, childhood cancers are not related to lifestyle factors, and little can be done to prevent them. Moreover, 2/3rds of children treated for childhood cancer will suffer long-term effects from treatment including loss of sight or hearing, heart disease, secondary cancers, learning disabilities, infertility and more. - You can learn more about Childhood cancer here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/about-childhood-cancer and http://www.stbaldricks.org/types-of-childhood-cancer When I found out about this, it was difficult not to do something about it. So, on this World Cancer Day, 17 Deutsche bank employees, friends and family will be supporting St. Baldrick's Foundation by shaving our head, to find a cure to children's cancer. St. Baldrick's has taken a lead in funding childhood cancer research, and 80% of all donated funds are directed towards research, a remarkably high percentage as compared to other NGOs. You can learn more about St. Baldrick's here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/why-we-exist If you think this cause is worth supporting, please help me in any of the below ways: 1) Donate: You can help donate whatever amount you deem appropriate, with all funds going to the Children's Cancer Foundation in Hong Kong. Donations over HK$100 are tax deductible in Hong Kong My personal page is: https://www.stbaldricks.org/donate/participant/744286/2015 Direct link to donation: https://www.ccf.org.hk/work.php?did=1 ("Shavee ID" is 744286 and "Site of event" is Deutsche Bank. Leave "Team" as blank.) 2) Join me as a shavee: If you are keen, you can even join me as a shavee! In total, 17 DB colleagues, their family and friends are shaving for a cure. In the end, we can sport our bald-ness together :). We have already raised close to US$45,000, and aim to surpass over US$50,000. 3) Provide me emotional support: We shave in Deutsche Bank's office premises, between 4:30-6:30pm on 4th Feb 2015. You are welcome to join me.
