Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?
A challenge among friends 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. This year, I’m joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
This will mark my 20th year of shaving my head for this amazing organization. Continuing in this journey, I'll be promoted this year to Baron of the Brave" for participating more than 20 years. I have once again been asked to take on the prestigious roll of Volunteer Event Coordinator! Not only am I shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research, I'm returning to take a shot at running the whole event!
I have personally witnessed the toll cancer takes on a family. As you may remember from years past, my nephew was cured of his leukemia by a great team of providers and the love of his family. Cancer has no boundaries, affecting my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. A few years ago, cancer took one of my dear adult friends who was an amazing lifesaver as a nurse. But cancer in children is merciless!
This year I will sponsor yet another child suffering from cancer. One of my "other sons" took his sick 2-year old son to the ER in June of 2022 and had the alarming diagnosis of leukemia. He is now five years old and has had an amazing recovery. To think that he had to endure treatments that most adults would dread is unthinkable. His treatment was experimental, as is for most children with cancer.
Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Research is hope for kids with cancer, but donations to find cures have been down since 2020. Your gift will give kids hope by supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants.
Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you!
