I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Associated Nursing Students of Elgin Community College

One reason this cause is personal to me is I lost a dear friend to malignant brain tumors. The year he died I had been diagnosed with a benign tumor in L3 following an open biopsy. After surgery for removal of the tumor, while still in the hospital I remember being so thankful that is was benign and that they were able to get it all. After five days in the hospital I was cleared to be discharged. I had fresh flowers that my family had brought me and I decided to give them to one of the kids on the pediatric cancer unit. I went to the unit and gave the flowers to a 9yr old boy with leukemia. He was very excited and thankful and in spite of his prognosis he was in such good spirits. I felt good to do something for him, but wished there was more that could be done. Unlike me, the child's nurse didn't think he would ever make it back home. Becoming a nurse and supporting St. Baldrick's are my way of doing more. I hope you all can join me. I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
