Many of you know I'm the GIS professional, or the crazy bocce announcer, but some of you also know that I'm the father of two special needs adult children. One of them, my son Tyler, had a brain tumor diagnosed over 11 years ago. He has had many head shavings due to surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments, so shaving my head for him was never a choice. Tyler is still fighting the effects of his cancer as a young adult, and is a testament to the human spirit.
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with all kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Besides doing this in honor of my son, this year I'm doing this in honor of Leo P., 9 and fighting for his life as you read this. I'm also doing this in memory of a high school alumnus, Hugh Brian McFarland, who for many years raised tens of thousands of dollars for St. Baldrick's in his Holmdel, NJ community until he left this earth on New Year's Day, 2012. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids and the people who have helped support them in the past and present, too.
