I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: The Seventh Grade Shavees

We're coming back! Don't worry, I'd never not do this!

Cancer is a huge thing that we really have to pour as much money into as we can.

I know a kid pretty darn well, a Hadley 6th Grader, Simon Nabeti, who went through cancer starting in second or third grade.  He missed out on school. He missed out on some fun things. No kid should ever have to miss out on childhood. I believe that no kid should ever have to go through this let alone have these terrible impacts. I believe that it can have a happy ending, and ending where the child is not only living but thriving, a way where the child isn't harmed by seemingly endless chemo.

Not to mention, my second cousin, Mary Hassan, went through cancer as a 19-year-old. I wasn't old enough to remember it, but my mom tells me about how I would just spend a day with Mary, and that would enlighten her rough days so much just to be with someone else. This can't be happening to anyone else. Staying in your house, away from college and your friends? NO MORE!

The stark reality is that 1 in 5 kids with cancer will die. Over 2500 kids in America will die this year from cancer. It's the third leading cause of death among kids, trailing only motor accidents and guns.

You have to think that not funding childhood cancer research has the same impact as not funding gun control. The reality is that this can be cured much quicker using much easier therapies. I'm no medical expert, but I know enough that if a certain ingredient can kill cancer or even halt the growth, allowing less easier treatment, it just takes a little bit to put it in a pill usable for kids. You see it with revolutionary medicines like Keytruda, used to treat various forms of cancer. This works by stopping the cancer from spreading, and not allowing the cancer cells to blend in with others, so your immune system attacks the right things.

All we have to do is apply this technology for kids. Maybe in say 2030, they will have this type of pill that halts the growth of cancer. That allows for minimal chemo, and once the cancer is done, the chances of a relapse are much slower because the revolutionary medicines make sure that every cancer cell is found. We are so close. Your donation on my head will be a huge one!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

P.S. The goal is now 1 dollar more than I raised last year.
