I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research
On Saturday, September 15, 2018, I'm shaving my head. Please give me a moment to explain why. My old friends at the Shillelagh Club in West Orange have created a great tradition. Each year on the day that is halfway to St. Patrick's Day the Club hosts a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. A few dozen people get shaved that day, and friends and family donate money to the foundation to make sure we go through with it. St. Baldrick's is a foundation that funds childrens' cancer research. It is a highly-rated charity that spends only 3% on administration. I began as a shavee on my 40th birthday. I'm turning 50 in October. In ten years I've seen cancer win and, thank God, I've seen it lose. And most of the time it loses it's because of a surgery or a treatment that resulted from research funded by organizations like St. B's. I know you give to many charities and get many requests like this one. But I only ask once every ten years :) and I will truly appreciate any contribution you make. Of course it is tax deductible. Whether you donate or not please come out to the event - it's how I'm celebrating my 50th this year. As when I turned 40: the largest contributor gets to run the cutter! Thank you for reading!

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.
