I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team New Research 8

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team New Research 8

This is me and one of my reasons for shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research.  My boy was diagnosed with leukemia when he had just turned two.  He underwent 3 1/2 years of treatment, which included chemotherapy, radiation, and numerous procedures (spinal taps, transfusions, etc.).  He is in remission and is now 8.  I worry everyday about him relapsing and about whether his treatment might cause other medical issues in the future.  Throughout the journey, we have met many other pediatric cancer patients.  Unfortunately, some of them have their angel wings.

My understanding is that only 4% of federal government funding goes towards pediatric cancer research.  My understanding is also that, given the current treatments for pediatric cancers, most of the kids will have health-related issues later in life.  I hope that, through raising money for St. Baldrick's Foundation, research can be funded that will raise the cure rate for pediatric cancer patients and lead to new treatments that may not have lifetime effects for the children.
