Did you know, in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined but in the last 20 years, only four new drugs have been approved that were specifically developed to treat children with cancer and less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute's budget is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research?
When we heard that students at Brookfield High School were organizing a fundraiser to benefit childhood cancer research, we knew we needed to get involved.
With their nationally popular head-shaving events, The St. Baldrick's Foundation has been able to fund high-impact clinical trials for rare cancers, the best and brightest researchers from around the world, training for the next generation of pediatric oncologists, as well as supportive care research to improve the quality of life for patients and survivors.
Kids with cancer often lose their hair during treatment. As a "shavee," several officers from the Brookfield Police Department will shave their heads to show our support — and in the process, hopefully inspire the community to donate whatever they can to this amazing organization where every grant funded by them is for childhood cancer research.
Now we need your help! Will you donate to our team to help this amazing organization and the amazing kids at BHS reach our goal?
