No, the picture is not of me, but of my two, sweet, very special great-nephews, Ben and Jack. We are so fortunate they are both happy and healthy little boys, which has helped me appreciate those kids who haven’t been that fortunate with their health.
I am shaving my head for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation whose goal is to support the best childhood cancer research. Every year, more children die of cancer than any other childhood disease. Although there has been a lot of progress made in cures for childhood cancer, for some types of cancer, progress has been limited.
The way St. Baldrick’s solicits funds is by having the participants raise money by volunteering to shave their heads for donations. This year I have decided to join the “madness” and shave my head. If you would be willing to donate to my “head-shaving”, you can do so on this link.
Another reason I decided to make this leap is to honor my family and friends who were either not fortunate enough to survive cancer but also to the many who fought the battle and came out on the other side. I apologize if I miss someone…it wasn’t intentional!
First and foremost, to both my mother and father, Jean and Carter Hubbard, who I miss every day. And also to my cousin Todd Smith, aunt Janelle Smith, beloved friend Brian Reid, co-worker Charla Varner, friends Doris and Del Martinson. And to those who have survived: “step-in” mother Pat Farnham, step-sister Debbie Tesoriero, cousins Shari Smith McCormack, Dave Foster and Steve Jordan, friends Kelly Parrish, Ray Brown, Jo Trethewey, John S, Eileen Heusinkveld. And last…Me. I got off very lucky with my bout of cancer, but the support I received during that time was tremendous and very much appreciated.
I appreciate your support...financial, if possible, but if that doesn't work out this year, your friendship is is all I need!
