I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: SMP vs. Cancer

I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: SMP vs. Cancer

Many years ago, Hippocrates observed that, "Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity." As an undergrad Classics major, this quote guides my journey towards medicine, and I know it rings true for many of you as well.

As part of a team of students in Georgetown's Special Master's Program, I intend to raise as much money as a part of our team, "SMP vs Cancer," to benefit St. Baldrick's and help fund pediatric cancer research. And I need your help!

Not convinced yet? Here are some facts:

1. Before they turn 20, about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will have cancer.

2. Many adult cancers can be diagnosed early. In 80% of kids, cancer has already spread to other areas of the body by the time it is diagnosed.

3. In the 1950s, almost all kids diagnosed with cancer died. Because of research, today about 90% of kids with the most common type of cancer will live. But for many other types, progress has been limited, and for some kids there is still little hope for a cure.

4. Childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded.

Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
