I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. On April 12, 2017, at the UIC College of Medicine St. Baldrick's fundraiser, I will be shaving my head--my entire head, all the hair is coming off, it's not just a haircut!! Please consider joining me in raising money for children's cancer research: you can make a donation through this website, find me in person, or Venmo me with "St. Baldrick's" in the notes (I will make sure to donate the money in your name). Any donation, including those as small as 50 cents, will be greatly appreciated!

My connection to St. Baldrick's begins with my wonderful friend Emily Day. Emily is a two-time St. Baldrick's shavee and a Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor. As I got to know her through high school cross country, track, and band, Emily quickly became one of the most trustworthy and encouraging friends I have ever had. Today, Emily is a captain of the Loras College women's cross country team, a school record-holder in the 3000m steeplechase, and the president of the Loras Student Union. She continues to listen to me, inspire me, and unconditionally support me, and I feel so lucky to have her as part of my life.

This April, Emily will be celebrating being eight years cancer-free. Because of Emily's organizational skills, St. Baldrick's has occurred twice at James B. Conant High School, but I never had the opportunity to participate due to college attendance in another state. This spring, I am excited to finally be stepping up and fully, completely, absolutely shaving my head in Emily's honor. I invite you to join me in fundraising for St. Baldrick's so that, someday, childhood cancer will be a thing of the past!
