I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
I decided to shave my head after my late boss Dr. Robert Arceci (Director of the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Hematology/Oncology at Phoenix Children's Hospital) had asked me to about 2 years ago. I was getting married in a month and was not to sure how my soon to be wife would feel about bald wedding photos. Unfortunately, he passed away in a horrible accident months later. When I heard the news I decided that I wanted to raise money for the work he dedicated his life to. Not only was I going to do that, but I wanted to donate my hair to a non profit while I was at it.
So here I am 2 years later with long hair and although I have grown quite attached to it, I know it will go to a brave young soul who is fighting for their life. I intend to continue donating my hair and being a shavee for years to come. As long as my genetics allows my hair to grow as luscious as it is today I shall donate it.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
Dr. Arceci has taught me many things in his life and death but most importantly he taught me that life is worth dedicating to a bigger cause. That is what this is about, it's not about me or Dr. Arceci, this is about helping kids with cancer. Cancer research is a constant battle that needs everyone's help and support to win. And I believe that one day we will win.
I remember overhearing a conversation that Dr. Arceci had with another person. The details are faint but I remember what he said and I intend to live by this. He was asked "How can you do the job you do, given the nature of it, and seeing what you have to see in those kids?''
He responded: "When you look into these kids' eyes, there is nothing you wouldn't do for them."
