Head shaving was something people began to engage in a while ago to demonstrate their solidarity with others who lost hair due to cancer treatments. I read a story years ago, about the classmates of a young girl who had lost her hair during chemo therapy. They shaved their heads, so that she would feel less out of place when she returned to school. These great young people exhibited some fantastic compassion.
Mike Constantine at FGCU made a donation to demonstrate his compassion for cancer patients. His motivation might probably come from thinking about the experience of his daughter, Julia. She received treatments to fight leukemia when she was 5 years old back in 1993. He understands the importance and benefits of donations made by people who care. Julia's treatments were successful. She is married now, and she has two children. I hope that the efforts and money we contribute to the St. Baldrick's foundation will go a long way to provide life-saving treatments for young people like Mike's daughter.
