Hello friends and family!
As some of you may know I have been growing out my hair for about the last two years so I could donate it to a charity that would turn it into a wig for a child that has lost their hair while battling a serious illness. After researching I also found the wonderful St. Baldrick's charity that will allow me to double the impact my hair can have by starting a fund raising charity for shaving my head!
On March 26th I will be shaving my head at the St. Baldrick's event at The Dubliner in Scottsdale and I will then donate my hair to charity. I would love to see all of you out there with me that day. We can have some drinks and laugh at my pasty white scalp ;-)
There are so many amazing kids out there who will never have the kind of childhood you and I had. Instead of riding bikes, they’re riding wheelchairs and hospital beds. Instead of blowing bubbles, they’re blowing into a spirometer. Instead of running around with the neighborhood kids, they’re watching them through a window. Instead of school dances, they’re going to chemo treatments.
No child should have to go through that and there will come a day, thanks to the work of charities like St. Baldrick’s and the people who donate, where no kid will have to ever again. I'm doing this to help get us just a little closer to that day, and I need YOUR help.
Everyone has someone they know and love that has been affected by one of the many horrible diseases out there; someone whose memory they could honor with a donation. I am doing this to honor the memory of the son of a dear friend of mine. His name is Michael Steven Cheshaek V. He was only 4 years old when he was first diagnosed with Leukemia - Non Hodgkins. He fought like hell and was the embodiment of dignity, grace and courage while he did it. Despite the raw deal life gave him, he was always brimming with the happiness and hope the rest of us can only hope to feel someday. He responded to everything and everyone with messages of love and inspiration, and reminded all who knew him to appreciate those things in life that are easily taken for granted. He never adopted a 'woe-is-me' attitude. He was the only person I have ever met that had this whole life thing figured out. He was a class act. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to this amazing soul on St. Patrick's Day back in 2013, but it is his memory that I am honoring with my donations. Who are you honoring with yours?
Please, at a time in our country where politicians can raise tens of millions of dollars from folks like you and me, please consider giving to this charity. With St. Baldrick's 77.4% of your donation goes straight to research, another 18.9% goes to future fundraising events and only 3.9% goes back to the folks running the show. So you can feel good about what your donation is accomplishing.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and God bless all of you for joining me, even if only in spirit, in supporting these amazing kids.
