It’s nearly time for the 2015 Growler Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament at Springdale Pool in North Raleigh. Take a look at the video that was made from last year’s tournament by an ariel drone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fJkkwB7zS5w My team the Mizfits didn’t make the video as we can’t Spike, Block, or make any spectacular Digs. But we did raise a lot of money for St Baldrick’s and had a great time doing so! We’ll be a little better on the sand this year too! For those of you not familiar with the tournament, here’s some background. About eight years ago, two swim clubs in North Raleigh challenged each other to a sand volleyball match. The winner took home a growler of beer. Today, it’s 32 teams competing from 7 clubs over a four week period for the coveted Growler Cup. http://growlervolleyball.com/about/ More importantly, the tournament is a fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research. So far, the Tournament has raised more the $70,000. This year, we hope to break $100,000. I’m doing my part through my team the Mizfits. If you’re in a position to donate to the cause, please follow this link to my donation page: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/804032/2015 If you can’t donate, don’t sweat it. We need volunteers http://growlervolleyball.com/volunteer/ and spectators http://growlervolleyball.com/2015-schedule-standings/. The opening and closing nights are big celebrations with food, drink, live music, great (sometimes) volleyball and lots of fun. Rumor has it that PF Chang’s mobile wok truck will be on site opening and closing nights. Please consider joining us in whatever way you can. It’s a great event and great fun!
