I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Crew Cut Crusaders

I'm shaving my head once more to raise money for childhood cancer research and I’d like you to join the crusade to find a cure. The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in West Orange will be holding our annual St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser on Saturday, July 18, 2015 to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research. I’d appreciate your support in helping my team, “The Crew Cut Crusaders” reach our goal of raising $10,000.

Every dollar pledged and donated on my behalf for having every follicle on my head trimmed to .0125” makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.

Janet and I have jump-started my team total with a donation of $500. A matching commitment from 19 fellow crusaders would put us over the top in short order. A dollar at a time from 9,500 of you would be just as much of a blessing for these kids and there families. Please give whatever you can to help us reach our goal.

Another way to make an impact, and one that will have a lasting impact on you, would be to sign up as a “Shavee” and/or Volunteer for the event. As a “Shavee” you’d be asked to follow the lead of hundreds of others who, over the years, have formed teams to solicit contributions in support of their participation. We could also have a “friendly” competition between teams to stoke the fire of our passions to surpass our goals – individually and collectively.

IMPORTANT FACTS TO CONSIDER

Each year, the parents of approximately 15,700 kids will hear the words “your child has cancer.” Across all ages, ethnic groups and socio-economics, this disease remains the number one cause of death by disease in children.

Despite major advances – from an overall survival rate of 10 percent just fifty years ago to nearly 90 percent today, for many rare cancers, the survival rate is much lower. Furthermore, the number of diagnosed cases annually has not declined in nearly 20 years.

• Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.

• 12% of children diagnosed with cancer do not survive.

• The average age of children diagnosed is six.

• More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year.

God Bless you for your consideration of this worthy plea on behalf of childhood cancer sufferers.
