I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Over the last 50 years, Childhood Cancer Survival has increased from 10% to nearly 80%. With funding from organizations like St Baldrick's, research is finding new cures and more kids are surviving 5...10...15 years and beyond. The first year we were involved with Baldricks, you raised over 18,000$ for Piper's Dad to shave his head.. and kept him in the top 10 fundraisers every single year since. With every year, however, donations drop. We get it.. really. New kids come along, balder and more serious than a Sassy, cured girl with a ponytail. We support the Shavees for the new kids, ALWAYS, and we continue to do our part. and ask you to help us raise as much as we can. And.. We've gladly disappeared from the spotlight. Similarly...as Cancer Cure rates rise, fewer people realize the need for continued funding, and donations to research agencies, like ours to Baldrick’s, are dropping. This year we've realized there's more to our goal than curing cancer... we're 80% of the way there! Our new goal is to find a better cure for cancer. And, as usual, we're counting on you to help! *3 out of 5 kids who survive Childhood Cancer, will develop Late Effects from the treatment they received. Some of these can be as serious as a relapse of their original cancer, new...secondary cancers, cognitive damage, or... heart failure. Last year, Piper was diagnosed with CardioMyopathy, a late effect caused by a toxic reaction to one of her Chemo drugs. We knew about Late Effects. We thought we were safe.. for 9 years post treatment, everything was perfect. And then it wasn't. Over the last year, we've become keenly aware that parents and patients who've battled cancer, and won, should not have to always wait for the other shoe to drop AND should NEVER have to hear it hit the floor. *There are new treatment drugs that are being researched, and tested that can cure cancers better, and completely... THE FIRST TIME AROUND, or eliminate the drug related Late Effects that 60% of Survivors are having to battle today. It's easy to remember the VERY important kids fighting cancer today, and while their bald heads stand as a symbol for the continued need to find the cure for 100% of Childhood Cancers, we need to also prevent them from relapsing. And we need to find a BETTER cure to reduce the number of kids with Late Effects whose new illnesses are invisible...hiding behind their hair. Please take 10 minutes to go to our web site and donate
