As most of you know, our son, Anthony was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia known as Ph+ ALL. Since then our lives have been forever changed! To avoid an immediate Bone Marrow Transplant , we decided to enroll Anthony into a new Clinical Trial. We are proud to say that, due to this trial he has been in remission for the last 19 months of his treatment! His treatment is due to end this December and our hopes are that he remains in full remission. Anthony has gone through way more than any child should have to go through in his fight against Leukemia!
What you may not realize is that Childhood Cancer Research gets the least amount of funding by the United States Federal Government. Less than 4% to be exact! Most adult cancers do not occur in children. The simple downsizing of adult dosage is where we are at now. The long term consequences of this treatment has demonstrated time and time again to be simply unacceptable! Without the proper funding directed at Children’s Cancer Research, Anthony and so many others, would not get exactly what they need to cure their cancers safely and effectively.
For one thing, children with life-threatening diseases exhaust their families physically and emotionally; even after recovery, neither the children nor their parents find it easy to advocate for themselves. With that being said, my family and I have decided to join forces with Wilmington Firefighters Local 1370 and Red Heat Tavern to help raise money for just that – CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH.
We also need your help…strengthen in numbers!!! Please follow the link below and consider helping Mike in his quest for going bald at this St Baldrick’s event being held on June 14, 2014 from 1 – 5 pm. We are looking for pledges to help Mike reach and exceed his goal. Stand up and support our team because NO CHILD should have to go through this fight alone. Whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer or donate, we hope you’ll be a part of this with us.
