For the seventh year in a row, I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
This year I am also honoring several friends who are currently battling various cancers. One of them is Nathan's 3rd grade classmate and fellow Cub Scout, Chase (That's a picture of him at the Wish Tree). After not feeling well for several months, Chase was diagnosed in October with Stage III Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, or cancer from his neck area down to his lower belly. He has undergone surgeries, chemo and other treatments since October. He lost his hair, missed a lot of school, Scouts and other kid stuff. Treatments have helped and now his hair is growing back and he is spending more time with friends and at school. I look forward to honoring Chase with my own bald head (he'll have more hair than I do by then!). Through Chase's family and others, I have heard about many of the positive cancer research and support groups. I was proud to hear that St. Baldrick's played a role for many of them in some degree or another.
Each year that I shave my head, more people share their appreciation of my support. Cancer patients and their families have thanked me for making this gesture. I want to thank them for showing us how to bravely tackle things that don't go our way! And I want to thank those who have sponsored my baldness in the past and who contribute to the future. We may not always know how or when, but I do know that together we are making positive differences to kids of all ages battling cancer.
Thank you,
Jim
