I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Red for Pooter

To all of my family, friends, and coworkers: St. Baldrick's is upon us once again. This is my third year participating. Many of you may know I have been involved in public service most of my adult life. Having served the community in which I live in for over 16 years now both as a firefighter and operator in the fire service and as an EMT and Paramedic working on the ambulance, I have encountered my fair share of people in need. In my experience nothing has touched me nearly as much as having to see children sick, hurt, and in need of rescue; whatever the situation. This is my third year participating in St. Baldrick’s Event at Finn McCool’s. Many people ask me what is St. Baldrick’s? The St. Baldrick's Foundation charity committed to funding research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. This year I have a very special reason for participating.

Daniel George Wedge IV aka Pooter visited the doctor for his 3-year-old check-up a few days before his third birthday. During his visit it was noticed that his glands on side of his neck were somewhat swollen and inflamed. After several weeks of testing, Daniel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. Daniel is the son of fellow, Ex-Operator of Harvey and Terrytown Fire Departments and current Jefferson Parish Fire Department Dispatcher, Daniel George Wedge III, and Michelle Lynch Wedge. Daniel is currently still in treatment at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He has been released to go home after an almost 2 month stay in the hospital but remains in treatment.
Our public service community has come together and set up blood drives, fundraisers, and TEAM POOTER to help with the cost of treatment. In addition to this I have made him my honored child for this years event. I would ask that everyone please join me and come together and donate pledges for this great cause. I will be collecting pledges to shave my head on March 22, 2013 at Finn McCool’s. Please keep Danny in your prayers and I hope to see many of you the day of the event.
I have decided this year that the person that pledges the most to me for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation will be allowed to shave my head the day of the event.

Thank you in advanced for your support.
