I am participating again this year in honor of my son Avan, and all children that are suffering and fighting for their young lives right now. Due to the reasearch that was done years ago, that was probably funded in some way by an organization much like the St. Baldrick's foundation, my son is currently thriving. His life was in danger more than once over the last three years ( Avan just turned three on April 5th!), but because of the knowledge the doctors had at their disposal which was gained through research Avan is still here. And his energy fills my home everyday, and as a parent I cannot even begin to explain how precious that is.
Avan's story thus far is one of success, but with literally thousands of cancers existing many childeren are left with little or no hope as I write this. And that is far from okay to me. St. Baldrick's is a way to take the fight to cancer, to get the dollars in the hands of thoes who can make the biggest impact in the fight against childhood cancer. Believe me, there is no more of a helpless feeling than having your child have a life threatening condition. Things feel so out of your hands. but were not helpless, we can come together and make leaps forward in the treatments we have to combat these cancers that are taking our young ones way too soon. St. Baldrick's is one way for me to help take control of the situation. Just like the people who took the time years ago to make a difference in my families story, I wish to take the time to make a difference for future families.
