You heard right!!! On March 7th I will be headed to Helen Fitzgerald's Irish Grill and Pub to have my head shaved in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research! I am asking that you consider sponsoring me in this event. No pledge is too small.
My shave time is 12:30pm. There will other activities during the event. Come on down and see me get my head shaved!
I promise to post an after picture!
I'm sure you're asking why would I doing this? I don't personally know any children battling cancer at this time. I don't work with children battling cancer. But I have felt the impact of cancer. I can't imagine how devastation it must be to be told that your child has cancer. But I do know how heart wrenching it is to be told that your parent has cancer.
In the summer of 1999 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and I would take dad to his radiation treatment. We would talk and I think dad was trying to subtly let me know how bad the prognosis really was. All of us kids really thought he would beat it, but he only lasted 6 weeks. Then, in May of 2003, my mother was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. Two weeks later she was gone. If shaving my head can help others from experiencing a loss from cancer, I'll do it.
Sometimes I find it easy to start worrying about a child's bad paper, or become frustrated because they wont pick up their toys, or exasperated because they didn't let me know ahead of time that they needed a clean shirt for school, or angry because they put a hole in a brand-new shirt. Sometimes I need a reminder that I am truly blessed and that my troubles are minor compared to what other parents are dealing with. I hope that you too feel blessed and are willing to help out those families facing the difficulties of cancer.
