As many of you know I decided to grow my hair out about a year or two ago and still to this day MANY of you tell me to "get a haircut...your hair is offensive and the 80's called and they want their hair style back!" Well, I am taking your advice and going bald for a great cause. Many do not know but my wife Lori and I had a scare last July with our then 17 month old son Christopher. We had to rush him to Christ Hospital because his Doctor said his immune system was so defenseless that a common cold could be very bad for him. To top it off, this was less than a week before we were taking him and "the Tribe" to see his favorite star Mickey Mouse. Anyway, the Pediatric Cancer specialist said that Christopher may have Leukemia and they need to perform a battery of tests on him to verify. After a second test came back with no answers, the specialist called in another specialist who also could not give us a confident answer. They then ordered a spinal tap on our little soldier. Needless to say, Lori and I were "beside ourselves" as they say. One minute we are double checking our trip plans and the next we're sitting in a hospital room wondering if our "Poohy" is going to be ok. To make a very long story short, Christopher got somewhat good news the day before we were due to leave. The doctor said that although his white blood cell was still abnormal, his count was strong enough for him to travel. We would have to have him tested as soon as we returned because he still was not in the clear in regards to Leukemia. As you can expect, he got spoiled on the trip. After 2 or 3 more blood tests Christopher got a clean bill of health in late August 2012. However, the scare of this incident and the incredible courage we witnessed from the children who were diagnosed with cancer and were receiving treatments, had a great effect on us. We often think about this time in our life and we also think about not only the kids but what the parents go through and it is very sad.
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. If you give $100 or more I will post your picture in the photo gallery. Thank you!
