I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

*La version en Espanol esta mas abajo* This effort on fundraising is in memory of Vero. As the mark of the first anniversary I couldn't think of a better way to show how beautiful and brave all of our kids are. How many times we've had a "bad hair day" or a "salon nightmare" and we wished our hair was perfect every day. Soooo, I thought what a better way to show that no matter how kids or adult patients going through chemo look they all have a big heart and a great positive attitude. I remember the day that Vero asked me to shave her hair, contrary to what she thought, she realized that she looked "better" without all of her hair than with the fewer strands she was still holding on to. Why? Well, everyone pointed out that her facial features became more noticeable, her big dark rounded eyes, the look in her eyes that showed her spirit and her strength to fight her illness. Then she became the little girl with the sassy hats...she loved her hats and wore them as an accessory to show her moods...she had the silly hat, the girly girly one and the furry one but, her favorite was the one her grandma made for her as she made a little one for her Penny, her webkinz Dalmatian. We all miss Vero every day, every minute and if we have had more protocols and medicines to fight not only the leukemia but the Philadelphia Chromosome we would still be trying everything for sure. But we didn't have more options...and we lost her. That's why this is so important to us, for other kids to find a cure, to help scientists in their efforts to keep their trials, to find more medicines that can save lives, to give hope. With all this said, I ask you to put a price on MY hair, and even if you can give just a little bit, maybe your lunch money for one day? it will help. However the true HELP I need from you is to pass this on to more and more friends so they do the same. Little by little if we reach more people we help spread the word on this gigantic effort of St Baldrick's, don't keep this message in your box, forward it...you never know who will be affected by cancer. We never imagined we would have to go through this with Vero, even when it happened we never thought we would lose the battle; that was simply not an option. Leukemia doesn't show specific signs, there's no tests to see predisposition, tests are done to confirm the diagnose, Leukemia doesn't even have to run in your family history, it's not in your genes either....the most common symptoms and what every parent describes can be easily mistaken as normal "growing pains" until you realize that they are not going away and keep getting worst. Losing a kid to leukemia affects everyone, not just the immediate family, parents, sibblings, grandparents, uncles, cousins, friends, everyone that knows the family and their child is affected. Please, help me make this quest worthwhile.. after all How much would it mean to you to see me BALD?
