This is my first year participating in St. Baldricks.
Recently, a co-worker's son, Carter, was diagnosed with a high-risk, stage IV Neuroblastoma at 11 months old. He has recently lost his battle with the cancer.
The reason that I'm inspired to participate this year in honor of Carter is because of the love and support that I could see in their family. In pictures, I could see the complete devotion that they had for each other, as well as the determination to keep their hopes up. (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/carterwax)
I have known a few cancer survivors, and a few who have lost their battle to cancer. This was the first time that I've ever been able to experience, through reading, day to day progressions on Carter. There were constant updates to the written and picture log, and in those pictures, you could see why the family fell in love with Carter. His smile was contagious, and his determination was evident. It is not hard to tell why he was so precious to everyone he came in contact with.
I may have never met Carter, but I want to honor his life, his smile, and his warmth.
