I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. As a leukemia survivor myself, I know what it means to be given the gift of life by the medical caregivers who treated me. I am now 16 months out from my own bone marrow transplant and doing better than I would have ever imagined. I want to specifically honor a 12 year old girl by the name of Kate F. who lives in Illinois. Kate was diagnosed with the exact same type of AML leukemia that I have and she recently underwent a bone marrow transplant as well. Her course was complicated by a severe leg infection which resulted in her having to have her leg amputated. Despite this she has remained remarkably positive and is far surpassing the rehab goals of her doctors. While I consider myself tough for having endured a year-long treatment, I can honestly say I am humbled by this girl's strength and courage. I have been been fortunate enough to get to know her by email contact with her parents and her Caring Bridge website (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/katefoster/journal ).
Please support Kate with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
