People from the Parker, Colorado community would like to raise money for childhood cancer awareness. Saint Baldrick's is a foundation to raise awareness of childhood cancer and to raise money for life-saving research. Leukemia is known as the cancer of the blood. There is an abnormal increase of immature white blood cells that overtake the bone marrow and quickly spread to the blood stream. Organs, lymph nodes, and the nervous system can be affected. Leukemia appears in child and adults and it contains four different subtypes. For more information on this type of cancer, please reference http://www.lls.org/#/diseaseinformation/leukemia/
The community recently lost Nate Ekhoff due to leukemia. Nate was a fellow student, athlete, prom king and a great friend to many people. He was a strong person and it was rare you didn't see him without a smile on his face. Nate inspired many people with his strength and perseverance. He graduated Ponderosa High School with the class of 2011. The school rallied behind Nate to support the fight for his life.
"March 30th, 2012 will mark the sixth St. Baldrick's event sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Through the personnel within the Sheriff's Office, friends, family, and the community at large, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help research new cures for childhood cancer."
