I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Napoleon

So, yes, Ross and I are shaving our heads. As to what possessed us to do this, I can’t really say, but I know we need to get going before I get cold feet. On a more serious note, both of our kids spent time in the AFLAC Cancer Center here in Atlanta. Ross had a blood disorder at birth and during the process of diagnosing McRae’s arthritis, there was quite a bit of concern that the lesions on his hips were cancer related. In our case, we were fortunate that neither of our children were diagnosed with cancer. However, the hours of uncertainty we experienced, combined with spending time with others who received a less favorable diagnosis, reinforced to us that a family’s world can change in a day, and as parents, not being able to control the outcome is probably the greatest challenge a family can face. We also currently have ties with two families fighting childhood cancer. Andrew Ethridge is our minister’s son, and was diagnosed with brain cancer over the Christmas holidays. He has been receiving treatment at MD Anderson in Houston since the beginning of the year. You can follow Andrew’s story here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/andrewethridge You will have to create a username and password for access Chase Brauda is the son of a childhood friend of mine who was diagnosed with leukemia over Christmas. Susan, his mom, writes eloquently of their journey on the facebook page below: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Chase-Braudas-Prayer-Team/202701593151836 Their stories do a much better job than I could ever do in convincing you that this is a worthy cause. Ross and I only hope that the money we raise today will one day lead to positive outcomes, or even a cure, for other families. So what do you need to do? If you can, attend the event. It is a great day of community spirit. You won’t leave without feeling better about your friends and neighbors, and feel free to laugh at my expense. Spread the word. Feel free to forward this e-mail, forward a facebook message, etc. We can use all the help we can get. And most importantly, SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION. It is easy to do from this webpage. Both of our kids wanted to do this, but unfortunately McRae will be out of town that weekend. I am thankful that they both appreciate their blessings and wanted to do something for someone else. Thanks in advance for supporting us. Hope to see you on the 24th!
