I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I came across this organization and was touched by so many stories of children who have become cancer free, and simultaneously saddened by stories of children who have not been so lucky. I read story after story of how parents have watched their children suffer through chemo and radiation, and others of how parents have had to suffer through the loss of a child. Instinctively, I thought to myself, "I couldn't imagine someone telling me my child had cancer." ..next I thought, "How can I help?" soooooooo...Im raising money, and this money that is raised by myself and other people is the root of research, the means to finding a cure for these AWFUL cancers that have taken away so much from so many children. And I know that there are always so many people raising money for so many things, but this one particular foundation truly hit home for me, as a parent, a nurse, and a person who hears so many heart wrenching stories about lives being taken by cancer, just like the stories that all of us have heard. So here is your chance, to do a good thing for others, to put yourself in someone else's shoes and think "how would I feel?"..your chance to help give kids the opportunity to really be able to fulfill their "What I want to be when I grow up" dreams. And, when I reach my fundraising goal, I will be shaving my head...that's right, I said shaving my head..in honor and memory of so many beautiful little people who have been affected by cancer. In response to me expressing my desire to raise money and shave my head, someone said to me "thats stupid, why would you want to shave your head, you'll look ridiculous. Well my response to that, my friends, is that people who are diagnosed with cancer, and undergo treatment, don't choose to lose all their hair. They dont choose to have cancer. They dont choose to be bald. So, if they are strong enough to endure all that comes with this awful diagnosis, the least I can do is give up my hair in their honor, to show them how important it is that we all come together to help support the goal of finding a cure. And everytime someone asks me about my bald head, I will be given the opportunity to educate and spread awareness. So help me help others, a dollar, a hundred, anything you can give. I'll donate my hair, you donate a few bucks. Maybe you could give up a night out and donate the money you would spend. These little people deserve it, these parents would give anything for it, and we're all in this together. "It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little - do what you can. ~Sydney Smith
