To help kids fighting cancer, I'm a volunteer with the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
I have the wonderful opportunity to work with some of these kids as a Pediatrician at MHUMC - they are truly an inspiration. Help me support their fight against cancer.
I am also participating in the event through the creation of art pieces to be auctioned off at the silent auction. The pieces are grouped in a collection called “Raise Your Hands." The act of raising one’s hand is a powerful symbol in American society from pop-culture to religion. It is referenced in multiple genres of music, from phrases like ‘I lift my hands to you’ to ‘Raise the roof.’ The hand itself is used to express compassion, greetings, strength, hope and love through a wave, high five, or held against another hand. For children, raising one’s hand is a visual statement that one has something important to say.
The art that is created uses the symbol of the hand for our patients to say: “We are fighting against childhood cancer”. We are providing a symbol of hope and encouragement. Each child that had the opportunity to participate placed an impression of his/her hand on the artwork. The photo above displays one of the canvases, and on this particular piece the child painted a word of inspiration that the she felt would inspire others to raise their hands in the fight against cancer.
With head-shaving and other fundraising events, this volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
