My sister, Emily, was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. The doctors told us that she had leukemia. Not just that, but she had a rare kind of leukemia that is hard to get rid of. Emily had to live at the hospital for six months (but it seemed a lot longer than that)! She had to have tubes put in her chest so the doctors could give her chemotherapy. She had to have a feeding tube for a while and there were times when she couldn't leave her hospital room. On top of all that Emily lost her hair!
It was a really hard time for me. I felt scared, angry and sad. There were lots of times when I felt alone. I missed Emily very much! We made lots of new friends at the hospital and I went to a special club just for brothers and sisters of kids with cancer. I learned a lot of things but I really just wanted Emily to come home!
I got my wish! Emily came home and she has been cancer free for 3 ½ years! My best friend is happy and healthy!
Cancer stinks! I want to do something about it! I want to Conquer Kids Cancer!
On April 27 I will participate in Saint Baldricks, an event to fight childhood cancer. Saint Baldricks is a huge event that happens all over the country. We raise money and spread the word about kids cancer, so people understand how important it is to find a cure! One way we help raise awareness is by shaving our heads! That's right! I'm saying bye-bye to all my hair! I mean, its just hair...it will grow back! Emily's hair did!
I am asking for your help. I have set a goal to raise $200.00. I would be really grateful if you could help me reach my goal! Let's save some lives together!
