Why am I having my head shaved? At the age of 1 1/2 years old I lost my grandmother to lung cancer. Then at the age of 13 a friend of mine got diagnosed with cancer and is still battling it to this day 7 1/2 years later. And just 2 months ago I lost 2 friends, both at the age of 19, to cancer. Cancer of all sorts effects hundreds of thousands of kids every year and each, single one of those kids effects and touches hundreds of people in their life. Therefore I am shaving my head to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, who typically lose their hair during treatment. More importantly, I'm doing it to raise funds for childhood cancer research!
Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. The St. Baldrick's Foundation partners with organizations around the world to fund childhood cancer research. We must all do everything we can to give kids a better chance for a cure.
