I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Cancer Fears Bryce and Joe

In December 2007, just 16 months after the loss of my son, a friend told me that her 18 month old nephew Clayton had just been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. The prognosis was dire and the outlook was bleak. Like other families in similar medical situations, they kept friends updated via a journal on caringbridge.org (www.caringbridge.org/visit/claytonferris/). I would often check the journal to follow Clayton’s progress. The ups and downs through chemo, stem cells, bone marrow and all the procedures he endured. In January 2009 I was thrilled to hear he was declared cancer free. Later that summer I was saddened to hear the cancer had returned. The next six months was a roller coaster of emotions as Clayton struggled to fight this awful disease. Then in February 2010 scans revealed two inoperable tumors and the doctors determined that his body was too fragile to undergo further chemo or radiation. On April 21, 2010 after a long battle little Clayton passed away. I have never been so affected by the loss of someone I had never met. The all to brief life of this little boy has motivated me to do what I can to fight this disease. In celebration of the life of Clayton Ferris I hope you will support me in my efforts to raise funds for the St Baldrick’s Foundation to fight childhood cancer.
