I am extremely excited for this year's inaugural St. Baldrick's event in Columbia, Missouri! Over the past year we have worked diligently to bring this event to Columbia and it has been amazing to witness the response that we've received from the community and the St. Baldrick's Foundation. We were originally going to limit this event to a mere 5 shavees and keep our sights aimed low for our initial effort, but I am glad that we decided to scrap that plan and to "Go big, or Go home."
Admittedly, I was not planning on shaving my head at the outset, but as the event started to take shape and come into reality I knew that I would not be able to pass up the opportunity. The last time that I attempted to sport such a low-pro coif was when I played basketball during my sophomore year of high school. Anyone who owns a Parkway North High School yearbook from that year could show you how big of a mistake that was. I have a HUGE melon and look down right awful with my head shaved. As such, I was pretty sure that I would never go "straight clippers" again. Of course that was before I had learned of the St. Baldrick's Foundation and their mission to Conquer Kids' Cancer.
If you're reading this blurb, it's probably because I've invited you to take part in this wonderful event. I would love it if you would come out to attend the event, where you'll see about 40 people shaving their heads for this cause. There will be food and drink served, as well as a DJ and Emcee to orchestrate the event. We'll also be honoring a few children who have been diagnosed with cancer and who continue to demonstrate their bravery and fearlessness each day. If you can't make it, please take a moment to pledge a few dollars in support of these children and research efforts that strive to cure these diseases.
