Dear Friends,
We are back for a third year of raising money for St. Baldricks. There have been many success stories in Jack's life this past year. Straight A's, lettering on the Wade Hampton High School cross country team, a great season on the Botany Woods swim team, and, of course, FINALLY turning 13 in a couple weeks. We also learned that St. Baldricks awarded a $50,000 grant to our local hospital, Greenville Memorial, for children's cancer research.
However, it is with a heavy heart that we construct this web page this year. Baby Alana, the beautiful little girl whom Jack honored at last year's event, ended her battle with infant leukemia on September 6, 2009. Jack and our family witnessed first hand the pain and sadness of a family losing a baby to cancer. Her life was short, only 19 months, but she was one of the strongest souls we knew. She battled bravely, endured much, and through it all, her smile would still light up a room.
Alana is now cancer free, but there are still so many children suffering from this horrible disease. We need more research to develop better treatment options for these tiny warriors and their families. We need a cure. Shaving a head will not cure childhood cancer, but money donated for research will help. Little by little, dollar by dollar we will make a difference. We will do our part in fighting this battle.
Please help Jack do his part by donating on his head. He decided last year that he would not cut his hair until this year's event. We look forward to seeing his face again soon, and we support him in his efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause. Thank you for your help in reaching and surpassing our goal.
Jack and Family
