Yes, it is St. Baldrick's time again, and for the third year in a row it will be my privilege to again be "going bald for the kids." Since last year's campaign I have reached 80 years of age, and I feel that I have been so blessed by a long and healthy life that I want to help make it possible for today's children and young people to have the same possibility of disease-free adult lives. That's why I am again supporting the St. Baldrick's campaign to raise funds for scientific research that will lead to the elimination of childhood cancer. Did you know that every 3.5 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer? You and I together are doing something about it. Since its inception in the year 2000, St. Baldrick's has raised more than $69 million for the cause. Worldwide 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year and despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. In our first two years here in Greenville our campaigns have raised over $90,000 to help kids worldwide avoid this horrific disease.
