You heard it right -- I'm shaving my head to help raise money for children's cancer research
I first heard about St. Baldricks from a coworker at South Austin Hospital. Last year, he participated in the same event, and I remember being so touched by his stories that I myself decided to get involved this year.
I have had a cancer scare myself, and I know first hand how scary the experience can be. Back in 2006, I had a mole removed from my upper back that came back as malignat melanoma. Unlike alot of people with this type of cancer, I was VERY lucky to have it all removed with surgery, and have been cancer free ever since.
Working in healthcare as an anesthesia tech at South Austin Hospital gives me the opportunity to work with and help sick people everyday, but I want to do more. I think this gives me an opportunity to give back in a different way. Sometimes I feel that I got off easy by not having to suffer through difficult treatments, so this is my way of supporting all those who were not as lucky as me.
I understand that it may be difficult to put aside money to donate to every organization/charity that asks for it, but cancer is something that can impact any life at any time. Please find it in your heart to donate anything you feel comfortable with. Remember, when the fundrasing is over I will be shaving my head in honor of three children I have chosen from the organization! Lets try to beat the $1,000 goal I set for myself! Thank you all very much!!
