One of my first memories of moving to our neighborhood is of Paige. I remember her running around in the dirt behind our houses and her beautiful, long blond hair flowing behind her. She didn't seem to care that none of us had any grass and that she was getting quite dirty. She always seemed so happy & carefree. Another favorite memory is seeing Carter & Paige outside with their brand new puppy that they got on Christmas morning. The joy they had just radiated across the lawn to our house.
I really didn't have much contact with Paige until I was lucky enough to get her as a student in 5th grade. She was soft-spoken but would definitely let you know if she needed something. She loved to read! She always had a book in her hand, unless she was at math! We had only a few short weeks with her before she was diagnosed with AML. Her treatments were aggressive and made her sick so she was not able to join us at school very often. Her Caring Bridge site (along with frequent e-mails from 'Miss Joanna') kept us up-to-date on her treatments. As a class we celebrated her progress and longed for days when she could join us at school. Throughout her treatment she was able to keep up with her peers in Advanced Math AND Literature! Her determination was absolutely awe-inspiring.
The last time I saw Paige she was out trick-or-treating with some of her buddies . enjoying life to the fullest as she always did. Soon after that she earned her angel wings. Her time with us was too short! But her zest for life infected so many people. We are participating in St. Baldrick's in honor of Paige and her enthusiasm for life. Let's cure childhood cancer! Together we can make a difference ~ I truly believe this.
Love, Christy
