In 2005 a fellow Air Force Reservist introduced me to St. Baldrick's as his friends little girl of six had started cancer treatments when she was less than two years old. I met her friend who was going through her treatments, and inspired by their battle, I volunteered to be a shavee at a local event. Just passing a hat around our local Irish pub raised $300! I was stunned by the love in the room, and so grateful. I continued to be a shavee for three more events. Along with four other Air Force reservists, we raised $1,200 as shavees, I was the only female volunteer.
Last year I raised $205 on my own for my fifth event at County Clare in Milwaukee. I hope to get at least that much for my sixth year. Most of my friends here and others who served in uniform with me are people of modest means, but loving and big hearts. They will give what they can because they all care about children.
Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
