Can you think of anything more important than saving the life of a child?

As the mother of a child who I lost to childhood cancer I have been associated with St Baldrick's for 22 years. I'm honored to be a committee member at this wonderful Northport event. I've also shaved my head at several St. Baldrick's events since the heartbreaking loss of my daughter Jennifer in 2010. I last shaved in 2021, now my hair has grown extremely long enabling me to give back on 2 levels in honor of Jennifer;

1. Shaving such a great length can go a long way towards raising much needed funding for St Baldrick’s mission to find cures for childhood cancer

2. My hair will be donated to make wigs for children who have lost their hair while in treatment.

Shaving this long hair will be a major sacrifice, in doing so I'd like it to bring an equally major contribution towards St Baldrick's mission for children with cancer. I have therefore set my fundraising goal at a modest $500.00 as the threshold to "Brave the Shave". Yes, this is no small favor to ask, it would be the largest fundraising goal I've ever set, but big promises deserve an equally generous level of support. Every donation makes a difference; all are welcome regardless of amount, as small donations can add up to big results!

Achieving my goal and shaving my long hair will be a wonderful way to honor my Jen while helping to make a difference for kids facing cancer. As always this year's St Baldrick’s event is happening on or very close to Jen's birthday, she'd have been 36 this year but I can only wonder what could have been.
