I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: One Hit Wonders

Once again I’m coming to share with you about the annual Growler Invitational Volleyball Tournament, a 4-week event where Raleigh's local recreation clubs battle it out on the sand to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation and fight childhood cancer. This year's tournament will be held from July 29th to August 19th.

This cause is deeply personal. Each year, we rally behind a local child, our "Spirit of the Growler" kid. This year, we're honoring the incredible Shane, a 10-year-old from Raleigh who was diagnosed with a large brain tumor at age six. After surgery, Shane lost all movement on his left side but has since relearned to move and even taught himself to ride a two-wheel bike. You can see his story in the video below.

Shane is one of 15 honored kids who have been the face of the Growler. Some are in remission, some are still in treatment, and sadly, some have passed away. I strive to meet each of these Honored Kids and their families each year on the final night of the event and it is always a deeply moving experience for me. I always walk away in tears.

The Growler started in 2011 with a humble $4,000 raised. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and people like you, we raised over $215,000 last year, bringing our total to over $1.3 million since we started. These funds go directly to St. Baldrick's to fund research, clinical trials, and treatments that give kids like Shane a fighting chance.

With a child being diagnosed with cancer every two minutes worldwide, your support is more critical than ever. A simple $5 donation from each of my friends would easily help us surpass our goal this year. Every dollar brings us one step closer to a world where kids can survive and thrive.

Join me in supporting the St. Baldrick's Foundation and making a real impact on childhood cancer research. You can read more about Shane's story here https://growlervolleyball.com/spirit-of-the.../2025-shane-w/ .

Thank you for your generosity and support
