In my late thirties my friends teenage daughter, Krystle McGrady was diagnosed with non Hodgkin's lymphoma and they removed a tumor the size of a school eraser from her chest. Several years later I was giving her a driving lesson (she was now 18) when she confided the cancer was back and she needed a stem cell transplant. That Thanksgiving I let her shave my head. It's a long road and in 2012 she was recovering, so along with her younger brother Max, we participated in St. Baldrick's together in her honor.
In 2014 I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and needed that same stem cell transplant. I was in shock and so scared. Who could know that it was to be this brave warrior who would explain to me what a port was and how food would taste so different while you had chemo and afterwards... Best cancer advice. DO NOT EAT YOUR FAVORITE FOODS DURING CHEMOTHERAPY. You may not like them later.
Fast forward to 2025. I Krystle is married to the same young man who saw her through all of it and I am still kicking and shamelessly trying to raise MONEY and awareness.
I have a thick head of hair, a short Irish neck and a salty sense of humor. For enough money I may let them shave my eyebrows too! Let's do this!!
