Why am I shaving my head? It’s about time I did it again. I independently shaved my head in 2015 and in 2020 for cancer awareness, so this year, I'm joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
Did you know, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won't survive? I lost my best friend to cancer when we were both 10 years old in 1996.
For those children who do survive, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50. Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
This is my first time participating in a St. Baldricks, and I wasn’t sure how much to set my fundraising goal, so I started with $143: Mister Rogers’ special number that means “I love you”. This is my “shaving off my hair way to say ‘I love you’” to so many children and their families. Another great way to say “I love you” is to donate to this amazing cause.
Edit 1: I reached my original goal of $143 in just two days!! So I’m stretching my goal to $500.
Edit 2: My mom is joining my team and shaving her head along with me!
Edit 3: I have reached my $500, and then my $750 goal, so with half a week left, I have stretched my goal a final time to $1000. Let’s do this!!
