I am shaving to raise money for childhood cancer research

Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?

20 years ago I received a call asking if my youngest child, Isabella could be an “honored kid at the first St. Baldricks event in Syracuse.

You see, Isabella had been diagnosed with cancer just 4 months prior.  Our family was still adjusting to the devastating news, that our not quite 3 year old daughter had leukemia.  Isabella “Bella” had already endured 4 weeks of high dose steroids, in an attempt to stop the leukemia from taking over.  Bella had already had a “port” placed into her body so she could receive some horrible chemotherapy through it, the necessary evil.  She had already had her first trip to the surgery center where the doctor put her to sleep in order to have chemotherapy placed directly into her spinal, which went all the way to her young, yet to learn and develop brain.  We then would spend the next few days stuck in the hospital as the same doctor who put that chemo in her now spent days flushing it out, horrible stuff that chemotherapy but again, necessary evil.

This would continue for the next 2 YEARS and 6 months.

In April of 2007 Bella was officially “off therapy”.  The months following still involved lots of doctor visits, Bella has had significant hearing loss and 3 surgeries to improve it some.  My Bella is a “lucky” one, she is ALIVE, she is now 23 years old and thriving.

So this brings me to 2025 and the final St. Baldricks event at our beloved Kitty Hoyne’s, how could I not come full circle and do the 1 thing I never thought I could do, GO BALD!

Every single child diagnosed with cancer should be able to LIVE, and that is definitely NOT happening yet.  I am asking you to give, whatever amount you can, sounds cliche’ I know, but quite literally every dollar matters!

If you’re willing to give to this cause, I’m willing to give up my hair….

Together, we can give kids the lifetime they deserve.

Thank you for your support!
