Why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives.
I participated in St Baldrick's 12 years ago with my brother- I couldn't go totally bald but was shaved with a #1 on the razor- and I cried. My hair is such an identifying part of me, I was scared to be bald and worried about the stares and comments.
I was never going to do it again, but now in my 50's the gray is coming through and it makes me sad to see the bright red at the ends of my hair compared to the lighter red/gray at the scalp, so I've decided to shave it again. Last month at the grocery someone said she recognized me by my hair. Now they will recognize me by my voice and glasses!
Cancer has touched my life- my cousin had leukemia as a child, my step sister conquered breast cancer and a friend is currently dealing with colon cancer. I work in an elementary school and my families have lived through cancer.
Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.
Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
