Covid has negatively impacted all of us but it has truly put a damper on St. Baldrick’s and our ability to raise money for this important cause. The St. Baldrick’s 2020 event was canceled in the early days of the pandemic and unfortunately, the 2021 event was also canceled. I was just about to set up a page to get sponsors with a plan to shave my head in the backyard when it was announced this special event would resume for 2022!
I have been struggling thinking about how we as a society have had such a hard time with Covid and how it has changed everything - our work, school, sports, social interaction, travel, and leisure. Seemingly every facet of our day-to-day lives has been affected by this pandemic. But in reality, other than inconveniences, it has impacted my personal life surprisingly little. Yes, Nick and I got sick with covid and were fairly miserable for about a week, I lost my taste and smell, and it was all a hassle. But imagine what families with children battling cancer have endured. They did not have the luxury to put cancer on hold. They had to navigate a healthcare system that was periodically shut down or very limited due to covid protocols. New diagnoses were delayed, treatments were postponed, parents were not able to be with their sick children who required hospitalization. The isolation and fear for these families are unimaginable.
We must look at everything we have and be thankful for them each and every day. We have one chance here on earth to make it a better place and leave it better for future generations. Over the years, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and your tremendous generosity have given me the opportunity to make a difference. Together we have raised over $50,000. There are so many children alive today because you have cared enough to sponsor research. YOU ARE AWESOME AND I THANK YOU!!!
After two years of missing this special event, this great tradition will resume on March 19th, 2022. Please join me by offering a financial sponsor or as a ‘shavee’ sitting in the barber chair and going bald.
I love each and every one of you and I am not afraid to 'type' it!
