I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Howdy, everyone! If you might not know me already, my name is Sara Garcia and I am a junior civil engineering & project management student from Houston, TX at Texas A&M University. Most importantly, however, I am shaving my head with St. Baldrick's & donating my hair to Wigs for Kids to raise money and help conquer pediatric cancer!

Growing up, I've always dreamt of changing the world. I've always wanted to leave my mark on the lives of those around me. This past year, more than ever, I have realized the power of people and the value of small acts of kindness. Sometimes we get caught up in all of the change we seek to enact - protecting our planet, fighting for equality and justice - that we overlook the magnitude of playing a small part for a large cause. Every 2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide, and 1 in 5 of those in the U. S. will not survive.

With this in mind, I’ve decided for my 20th birthday to donate 20+ inches of hair and set a fundraising goal of $200 for lifesaving research to find cures and better treatments for kids. Despite the allocation of this effort, I hope that this act of kindness can stand in solidarity with all of those whose family, friends, parents, and loved ones have/are battling cancer & leukemia.

This shave is also dedicated to Faith Johnson of Georiga, the toughest fighter I know. Although she is younger than I am, I want to be as strong as her when I grow up <3

If you are willing and able to, please join me in donating! Your donation can fund research to help kids survive and thrive. Regardless, your support and outreach mean the world to me, no matter the financial value. Thank you all & let's change lives :) #roaring20s #shaveforfaith <3
