Celebrating 25 Years

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.

I have worked with St. Baldrick’s for the better part of a decade. Vanity was the reason I was always content to be on the operations side of the event. Fate eliminated my reasons for pause and in a time when we have all felt like we could do more, the opportunity to benefit such a great cause is too good to pass up. It may not be #coronavirus related but Children’s Cancer is no less a challenge, as I am sure my good friend and scientist Jonathan Kagan, would agree.

So with mild trepidation, I will be shaving my head with Bill Hogan, Joey Santamorena & Co. (TY Laura C, Megan S/G and Vic (in no specific order). This team is in their 14th year raising money in support of St. Baldrick’s. After over a decade and well over 100 shaving events, they have raised a staggering $8 million!

Before the pandemic, a child would be diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes throughout the world. Covid hasn’t magically stopped it like it did my (temporary) need for hair (I still love what hair I have). Admittedly, times are uncertain and money is tight. Most that can give already have done so. In lieu of a donation, if you would share this post to help spread the word, that’s all I feel comfortable asking. This is virgin territory for me and while I intend on donating blood asap, but every dollar or SoMe impression is more than I’m doing typing this.  Thank you, stay healthy and safe!
